Heat Advisory Issued For Long Island For Thursday And Friday
High temperatures and humidity will make it feel close to 100 degrees in some areas.
LONG ISLAND, NY — A heat advisory has been issued for all of Long Island for Thursday and Friday, as temperatures will feel close to 100 degrees both days.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday for the entirety of the island.
Temperatures both days will be around 90 degrees, but will feel much hotter. The heat index will be as high as 97 degrees in some areas.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.
Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, and you should call 911 if you suspect someone is suffering from it.
