Large Amount Of Fireworks Found During Weekend Traffic Stop In Nassau: Police

One officer suffered a back injury while taking Max Zepeda Villalta into custody, police said.

WESTBURY, NY — A Uniondale man was arrested and charged for possession of explosives over the weekend in Westbury, police said.

On Sunday afternoon, officers observed a grey 2013 Nissan Altima heading southbound on Post Avenue with non-transparent tinted windows. During a traffic stop, officers noticed a large amount of fireworks on the rear seat, police said.

Max Zepeda Villalta, 20, was arrested. He was also in possession of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, authorities said.

Villalta became combative and violent while being processed and a struggle ensured with officers, before he was subdued, police said.

One officer suffered an injury to his lower back, causing substantial pain, police said.

Villalta is charged with possession of explosives without a license, storage of explosives, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree assault and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, police said.

He was scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
