Laura Schaefer Elected in 14th Legislative District

Laura M. Schaefer has been elected as the legislator for Nassau County’s 14th district, which includes Garden City.

She ran unopposed for the seat formerly occupied by Joseph V. Belesi, who declined to re-run after serving as legislator since 2009. She garnered 12,634 votes Tuesday.

Schafer, R-Westbury, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Adelphi University. She practices personal injury law in the Bronx.

Schaefer said she "she understands that out of control taxes and the high cost of living are driving our youth, seniors and families off Long Island." She vows to "fight hard to hold the line on taxes by keeping them as low as possible."

Schaefer says she will also make sure seniors "receive the benefits, care and respect they deserve." Her number one priority if elected, however, is job creation to enable college graduates to "start a life here on Long Island," and help the unemployed "begin to prosper again."
