Man Displays Knife While Stealing From Nassau Grocery Store: Police

Lucius Jenkins Jr. was violent and combative while resisting arrest, police said.

CARLE PLACE, NY — A Freeport man was arrested and charged for a robbery in Hempstead earlier this year, police said.

On Feb. 19, Lucius Jenkins Jr., 25, failed to pay for multiple grocery items from the Bravo Market on Fulton Avenue, police said.

When approached by store officers, Jenkins displayed a switchblade knife, police said. Jenkins fled prior to police arrival and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

After a thorough investigation, Jenkins was identified and located at the Holiday Inn on Old Country Road in Carle Place, police said.

When officers attempted to place him into custody, Jenkins was violent and combative while resisting arrest, authorities said.

Subsequent to the arrest, it was determined he was responsible for a petty larceny on Feb. 14, 2024 at the BJ's Wholesale Club in Westbury, police said.

On Nov. 7, officers initiated a traffic stop of Jenkins when he was uncooperative. Jenkins fled the scene in his vehicle, striking a police officer causing minor injury and striking a police vehicle causing damage, police said.

He also struck an uninvolved vehicle, which was parked and unoccupied, causing damage, police said.

Jenkins is charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree
criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and petty larceny, police said.

He was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
