Man Harassed, Followed Teen As She Walked Home: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department has reported the following incidents for the week ending Sept. 6.

Aug. 31

  • A medical office reported someone created a forged medical report using their letterhead and company name.
  • A company reported checks picked up by the Postal Service were stolen, altered and cashed by an unknown person.
  • Packages were reported stolen from a FedEx drop-off box on Old Country Road.
  • A driver on 11th Street said another vehicle fled the scene after striking his vehicle, causing him to suffer back pain.
  • The mirror to a vehicle parked on the Adelphi University campus was found damaged.

  • The Garden City Police and Nassau County Probation Departments conducted a joint investigation on County Seat Drive resulting in the arrest of a 23-year-old man for driving with a license suspended for DWI offenses.
  • Multiple items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Pell Terrace.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended registration, passing a red traffic light, and excessive speed.
  • A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed in a school zone.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.

Sept. 2

  • Officers responded to New Hyde Park Road for malfunctioning railroad gates due to a service disruption in Queens.
  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and failure to yield right of way.
  • A vehicle parked on Damson Street was rummaged through and the carpet and glove box were damaged.
  • Officers investigated a report of a man stealing ice cream containers from a store.
  • A person’s identity was reportedly used to file false unemployment claims.
  • A person’s identity was reportedly used to open unauthorized bank and debit card accounts.
  • A 46-year-old motorcyclist was arrested on Poplar Street for possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended/revoked license, and unregistered vehicle.
  • A landscaping company was issued a ticket for operating gas leaf blowers. Another company was charged with landscaping without a permit.
  • Police are investigating a scam where a store employee received a phone call from someone she thought was a contractor who did previous work for her employer and per the caller’s directions, transferred money from the employer’s bank account to an unknown bank account.

  • A 54-year-old woman was arrested on South Avenue for DWI, passing a stop sign, and unsafe lane usage.
  • A driver on Hilton Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.

Sept. 4

  • Officers arrested a 35-year-old man for harassing and stalking an 18-year-old victim on St. James Street South as she was attempting to walk home from the Country Life Press Railroad station.
  • Officers arrested a driver on Meadow Street for aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree (11 license suspensions) and passing a red traffic light.
  • Officers arrested a 34-year-old man for the theft of multiple items from a store. He was charged with petty larceny.
  • Upon investigation of an Aug. 30 incident on 7th Street, detectives arrested a 58-year-old male for harassing another person by pushing him, spitting on him, and pouring coffee on him.
  • A vehicle parked in a Garden City Plaza parking lot was reportedly damaged by unknown means.
  • Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a reported oven fire. Firefighters determined the issue was excess steam emanating from the oven while it was in self-cleaning mode.
  • Items were stolen from a handbag which was stored inside a 7th Street restaurant employee area.

Sept. 5

  • A bicycle was reported stolen from a Cathedral Avenue yard.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 27-year-old man for grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument. The man deposited forged checks into his bank account followed by subsequent withdrawals for a loss of $37,300.

Sept. 6

  • Garden City detectives arrested a 21-year-old man for grand larceny and computer trespassing. The man hacked into a victim’s bank app and transferred money from the victim’s account to his bank account for a loss of $19,000.
  • An unauthorized online account was opened using a victim’s identity and then used to make fraudulent purchases.
  • The bumper on a vehicle parked on the Adelphi campus was found damaged by unknown means.
  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding in a school zone.
  • Two driver on Rockaway Avenue were charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding in a school zone.
