Man Stole $96,000 In Collectibles: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 1.
Feb. 23
- Officers responded to a report of a traffic light malfunction at Cherry Valley Avenue and Old Country Road.
- A driver on Clinton Road at Meadow Street was charged with multiple license suspensions and excessive speed.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with suspended registration and improper license plate.
- Officers investigated a report of missing items from a vacant residential garage on Wellington Road.

- Garden City detectives arrested a 40-year-old man for possession of numerous collectable items including comic books, baseball cards and jewelry, which were reported stolen from multiple storage units. The total value of the recovered property was $96,000. The man was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property.
- Police are investigating a report of lewd behavior by a group of youths at Edgemere Park.
- Officers responded to Oxford Boulevard for a fallen tree blocking the roadway.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and disregarding a red traffic light signal.
- A person’s identity was reportedly used to open a fraudulent credit card account and make subsequent purchases.
- Officers responded to an auto service center on Franklin Avenue for a report of a possible incendiary device. Officers secured the area and determined the item to be a discarded air fryer and not a threat.
- Detectives investigated a report of a Zoom call between residents being interrupted by images depicting violent acts.
Feb. 25
- Officers responded to 13 winter weather-related calls, including fire calls, burglar alarms, vehicle accidents, traffic light malfunctions, power outages and fallen tree limbs.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.

- A driver on Cherry Valley Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.
- A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
Feb. 27
- A person’s identity was reportedly stolen and used to apply for a fraudulent driver’s license.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and operating a cell phone.
- Police and firefighters responded to St. Paul’s Field for a report of a gas leak. Firefighters determined the area was safe.
Feb. 28
- Packages were reported stolen from a Garden City Plaza FedEx drop-box.
- Items were removed from a vehicle parked on Weyford Terrace and later found by a passerby on Kilburn Road.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with unlicensed operation and operating a cell phone while driving.
- Police and firefighters responded to a 7th Street for a report of a gas leak. Firefighters determined the area was safe.
- Officers assisted firefighters in the rescue of a small child who was stuck inside an elevator on Hilton Avenue.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and passing a stop sign at Merillon Avenue.
March 1
- A resident’s identity was reportedly stolen and used to open an unauthorized bank account.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and improper license plates.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.
