Mangano Sentencing Delayed; Prosecutors Seek 17.5 Years In Prison
Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to sentence the former Nassau County executive to 17.5 years in prison next month.
NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The sentencing date for former Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has been pushed back to next month, and federal prosecutors are asking he spend more than a decade behind bars.
The sentencing date for Mangano and his wife, Linda, was pushed back to April 14. The two were originally set to be sentenced later this month.
In a memo filed today, federal prosecutors asked that the judge sentence Mangano to 210 months in prison — 17.5 years behind bars.

"From the moment he was sworn in, the defendant engaged in a stunning abuse of power," prosecutors wrote. "He monetized his power and influence and betrayed the people of Nassau County, most notably the residents of the [Town of Oyster Bay]."
In addition to years in prison, prosecutors want Mangano to pay $526,606.95 in forfeiture.

Mangano, now 59, was convicted in 2019 of a string of charges related to accepting bribes in his position as Nassau County executive. Linda, 58, was found guilty about lying to the FBI about a no-show job she had.
As part of the bribery scheme, Mangano pressured the Town of Oyster Bay into backing $20 million in loans for restaurateur Harendra Singh, who was bribing the Manganos.
Earlier this month, Mangano's lawyer filed papers saying the former county executive should get leniency in his sentencing. The lawyer cited Mangano's years of public service, and the fact that he "lost virtually everything" since the conviction.
" Like all public officials, the defendant took an oath swearing to provide the people of Nassau County with honest services – to subordinate his own personal interests to the public’s needs," prosecutors wrote. "For more than five years, he defiled that oath."
