Multiple Drivers Charged With DWI: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Nov. 29.
Nov. 22
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding into another vehicle on Hilton Avenue.
- A vehicle was damaged by unknown means while parked unoccupied in Garden City Plaza.
- Officers were assigned traffic and safety details for a protest in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue and 15th Street.

- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license, unsecured load, and excessive speed.
- Upon investigation of a report of a stolen vehicle at the Stewart Manor railroad station, it was determined the vehicle was misplaced and not stolen; it was located at a nearby station.
Nov. 24
- Officers arrested a 38-year-old man on Franklin Avenue for DWI, driving with a suspended license, driving with a suspended registration, possession of a controlled substance (steroid), and multiple aggressive driving violations.
- Police officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for the annual Turkey Trot races. Medics attended to two runners who apparently suffered dehydration. In addition, officers found three lost children and reunited them with their parents.

- Officers arrested a 30-year-old man on Roxbury Road for DWI, criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), lane usage violations, and drinking alcohol while driving.
- A person’s identity was reportedly stolen and used to file for unauthorized unemployment benefits.
- A bicycle and other Items were reported stolen from a Hilton Avenue shed.
- Officers investigated a road rage incident that began in Hempstead and ended on 6th Street.
Nov. 26
- Firefighters, police officers, the Fire Marshal, and the arson squad responded to Whitehall Boulevard where a resident extinguished a small brush fire. Upon investigation, it was determined the fire was apparently caused by fireworks. The investigation is ongoing.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on 7th Street and Hilton Avenue, officers arrested a 43-year-old woman for DWI, passing a red light, and excessive speed.
- A tractor trailer reportedly fled the scene after striking and damaging a pedestrian activation pole on New Hyde Park Road.
- An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Clinton Road at Wyatt Road. As the officer was conducting his investigation, the vehicle suddenly turned around and fled northbound on Clinton Road committing numerous traffic violations. The 24-year-old driver was subsequently located in Queens and placed under arrest for reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, unlawful fleeing from a police officer, two counts of excessive speed, and other related moving traffic violations.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- A business reports receiving multiple harassing phone calls.
Nov. 27
- Officers arrested a driver on Clinton Road for DWI, multiple license suspensions, and unsafe lane usage. The 34-year-old driver was charged with felony DWI and felony aggravated unlicensed operation due to a prior DWI conviction.
- Officers responded to a flooding condition on Rockaway Avenue.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.
- Firefighters and police responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be a malfunctioning unit.
Nov. 28
- A vehicle left the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied vehicle parked in an Adelphi University parking field.
- Officers arrested a 36-year-old driver on Franklin Avenue for 11 driver license suspensions, a suspended registration, and defective brake lights.
- Surveillance cameras showed a man wearing a gray sweatshirt walking through Franklin Court properties at 1 a.m. There is no loss reported at this time.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be ongoing construction.
Nov. 29
- Officers investigated a report of a man entering the vestibule of a Franklin Avenue financial institution and make multiple unauthorized ATM transactions after covering the surveillance cameras with an unknown substance.
- A driver was charged with the operation of a truck on Stewart Avenue while 23,000 pounds overweight and carrying an unsecured roll-off container.
- Firefighters and police responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a fire alarm and found the cause to be an alarm system issue.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a red light at Edgemere Road.
