Nassau County Opens Cooling Centers, Including 24-Hour Location
Residents can come in to stay cool during the current heat wave, and spend the night if they want to.
NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The county has opened three cooling centers to help residents beat the heat during the current heat wave.
Nassau residents can visit one of these three locations to cool down during the day:
- Cantiague Park Administration Office, 480 West John St., Hicksville
- Wantagh Administration Building, 1 King Road, Wantagh
- Mitchel Field Administration Building, 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Uniondale
The Hicksville and Wantagh locations are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Mitchel Field cooling center is open 24 hours.

Anyone at the Hicksville or Wantagh centers who needs overnight cooling assistance will be transported to the Mitchel Field location, where they can spend the night.
