According to Donnelly, around 2 a.m. on July 28, 2019, Grant found a man outside the D'Ambiance Nightclub in Baldwin who he felt was his enemy. He followed the man into an alleyway, then pulled out a gun and fired seven shots at the man. The shots all missed, and the man fled uninjured.

Grant was arrested later that morning in Hempstead by Hempstead and Nassau County police.
