Nassau Man Sentenced For 2019 Killing
Jose Ortiz-Trochez pleaded guilty to killing a man in 2019. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Nassau County man was sentenced today to nearly two decades in prison for the murder of a homeless man in a Hempstead park in 2019.
Jose Ortiz-Trochez, 21, of Hempstead, pleaded guilty on Feb. 23, 2022 to first-degree manslaughter. He was sentenced today to 19 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
“We can never truly know what drove the defendant to take 34-year-old Juan Gabriel Chic-Sian’s life, but we do know that he will now spend many years in prison paying for his crime,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “Any kind of violence on our streets and in our parks will not be tolerated. We will continue working with our partners at the Nassau County Police Department and other police departments throughout our cities, towns, and villages, to ensure that the perpetrators of violence in our communities are brought to justice.”
