Nassau Police Searching For Third Cell Phone Store Robber

Police say the other two were caught trying to sell the stolen phones on a street corner.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — The theft of thousands of dollars of merchandise from a Hempstead cell phone store led to the arrest of two people, Nassau County police said. And the search is on for a third.

According to police, three people entered the Cricket Wireless Store at 33 Main St. in Hempstead around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 21. Police say they stole about $9,000 worth of cell phones and then fled the store.

A short time later, Nassau County police officers located Kamorie Edwards, 48, of Roosevelt, and Naire Johnson, 19, of Hempstead, as they were trying to sell the stolen phones near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Franklin Street, police said. They were arrested without incident.

They are both charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. They were arraigned on Oct. 22 in First District Court in Hempstead and released on their own recognizance. They are due back in court on Oct. 28.

Police are still searching for the third person, who is pictured above. Anyone with information identifying them is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
