National Night Out at the GC Pool

Garden City police meet and greet with residents to discuss ways they can assist police in making the community safer.

National Night Out, a program being conducted in communities throughout the country Tuesday, is going on now at the Garden City Pool through 8 p.m.

National Night Out enables local police departments across the country to form a partnership with the residents they serve to make their town and/or village safer by encouraging citizens to report crime or suspicious activity, take necessary steps to prevent crime, join and/or support local community organizations that address crime and other important quality of life issues, discuss with their family what to do in case of an emergency, help make children aware of the dangers of drugs and alcohol as well as teaching them what to do when approached by strangers, according to a press release issued by the police department.

"Representatives from the Garden City Police Department as well as the Special Police Department will be on hand to interact with residents," police commissioner Kenneth Jackson said.
