New Japanese Restaurant Comes To Roosevelt Field Mall
Nomiya is a izakaya -- a Japanese eatery where you can get comfortable, get a drink and have some delicious food.

GARDEN CITY, NY — Diners at the Roosevelt Field Mall now have a new option: Nomiya, a Japanese restaurant which has just opened. The restaurant bills itself as the area's first izakaya — a type of Japanese bar that serves food.
The restaurant is owned by Ajay Chawla, Lawrence Wai and Moul Kim, who also own the Keki Modern Cakes bakery, which they say brought the bouncy cheesecake trend to the US. The trio wanted to create a restaurant that served quality Asian cuisine with a local spin.
Izakaya is a Japanese portmanteau. It means "stay-drink-place." Izakaya restaurants are popular after-work hangouts, where people can get comfortable, grab a drink and get some tasty food.

The menu was created by Chef James Choi, a sushi chef with much experience. Signature rolls include the locally-sourced Suffolk Roll, a kani and cucumber roll topped with torched yellowtail belly and a seven-spice shichimi sauce; and the smoky Nomiya Roll, a tuna asparagus maki garnished with spicy lobster which arrives tableside billowing sesame-scented “dragon’s breath.”

The restaurant is located in the Roosevelt Field Mall, at 630 Old Country Road in Uniondale. It is open from noon to 10 p.m. every day.
