New Sock Skating Exhibit Opening At Long Island Children's Museum
The exhibit will allow kids to get some active play without needing to bundle up for cold weather.

UNIONDALE, NY — Starting this month, families can experience some of the most fun outdoor winter activities indoors at the Long Island Children's Museum. The museum will open its new exhibit, Snowflake Sock Skating, on Nov. 12.
This new exhibit offers plenty of opportunities for active play as kids stretch, twirl and glide. And as visitors step off the “ice” they can jump into dramatic play in the museum's Snowflake Village, which simulates cozy winter scenes. Children can become bakers in the holiday sweet shop, step inside a giant snowman to serve up some “hot” cocoa, take a turn in the rink’s “ticket booth” or “warm up” around a rink side “fire” pit.
“As the weather turns colder, children naturally spend less time outside engaged in active play,” said LICM Director of Education Aimee Terzulli. “Snowflake Sock Skating addresses this issue by offering them opportunities to get moving and burn off pent-up energy.”

Going forward, the Long Island Children's Museum plans for Snowflake Sock Skating to be an annual visitor experience.
During the rink’s two month stay, the museum will offer public programs to complement the exhibit experience. During the exhibit’s opening weekend (Nov. 12-13) visitors can create their own winter wonderland scene complete with a moving skater and explore the beauty of snowflakes, and make their own to take home between 1-3 p.m.
