North Carolina Duo Had Loaded Handguns In Their Car: Nassau Police

Police say the weapons were discovered during a routine traffic stop.

GARDEN CITY, NY — Two North Carolina men were arrested Sunday after police say they found two loaded handguns in their car after a traffic stop.

According to police, officers saw a gray Nissan Altima drive through a stop sign at the exit ramp of the Meadowbrook State Parkway at Zeckendorf Boulevard in Garden City just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The officers pulled the car over, and police say they saw the driver and a rear passenger making furtive movements as the officers approached. Officers ordered both men to get out of the car.

Police say the officers found a loaded Glock 43 9 mm handgun in the driver's door panel. They also recovered a loaded Glock 30 .45 caliber on a back seat, police said.

Nicholas Caple, 24, and Maurice Tucker, 23, both of Statesville, North Carolina, were arrested without incident.

Both men are charged with criminal possession of a firearm, and second- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. They are scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
