School Bus Involved In Accident In Garden City: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Nov. 1.
Oct. 26
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined it was activated by burnt food.
- A truck driver on Edgemere Road was charged with disregarding no-commercial-vehicle signs and driving with a loose fuel tank.
- A driver on Clinch Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and defective lights.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation, excessive speed, and operating a cell phone.
- Firefighters and police responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a gas odor in the basement. National Grid was notified to respond.

- Officers and medics responded to Washington Avenue and assisted a man who suffered facial injuries as a result of a road rage assault. Upon investigation, it was determined the incident occurred in Mineola.
- A vehicle reportedly left the scene after being involved in a collision with another vehicle on Stewart Avenue.
- A company was charged with the operation of a truck on 11th Street while carrying an unsecured load.
Oct. 28
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a gas smell and determined the cause was a heating system issue.
- Officers responded to Washington Avenue and Chestnut Street for a report of a traffic light malfunction.
- A company reported an employee received a phone call from a person claiming to be from the company’s bank; he was advised to make company transactions totaling $105,000. Upon completion of the transaction, it was determined to be a scam.
- Officers and medics responded to a residence and provided medical assistance to a UPS driver who was bitten by a dog.
- An Old Country Road business reported two fraudulent charges were made against the company’s bank account.

- Halloween decorations were reported stolen from two residences.
- Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue and South Avenue for a traffic light outage.
- Police participated in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day and collected six large boxes of unwanted, expired and unused drugs and medications. Adelphi University also participated in the event and collected one large box of pharmaceuticals.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and passing a red light.
Oct. 30
- Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a large demonstration on Kellum Place.
- Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction at Cathedral Avenue and 1st Street.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper license plates.
Oct. 31
- A company was charged with the operation of a truck on Washington Avenue while 15,000 pounds overweight.
- A driver on Chestnut Street and Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license.
- A school bus with children aboard struck and damaged a pedestrian signal pole on Stewart Avenue and Wellington Road. No injuries were reported.
- Officers investigated an attempted larceny in Parking Field 5. A man advised a woman she dropped something outside her vehicle and when she started looking the male attempted to steal contents from her pocketbook, which was inside her car. The woman confronted the man, who then fled the scene accompanied by another woman.
- As a result of a lengthy investigation of an incident that occurred on 6th Street, Garden City detectives arrested a 32-year-old man for possession of several stolen, altered and forged checks. He was charged with five counts of criminal possession of stolen property and six counts of criminal possession of forged instruments.
- Officers were assigned to Halloween traffic and safety details.
Nov. 1
- Officers, firefighters and medics responded to a residence where four occupants, one adult and three children, were suffering from nausea. Firefighters determined there were unsafe carbon monoxide levels in the home. The residents were treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Firefighters remained at the scene and rendered the area safe.
- Officers assisted Nassau County units who were looking for a man who committed a serious domestic incident in Uniondale, fled the area, and was last seen in the village. Upon search of the area, he was located in the vicinity of Hilton Avenue and 3rd Street and was arrested without incident.
- A vehicle deemed as a scofflaw by the Garden City Court for unpaid tickets was impounded from Parking Field 7S.
- A driver on Nassau Boulevard was charged with driving with a suspended registration and passing a red traffic light signal.
