Police say he stole expensive products from a woman at a mall, then fled when officers located him not too far away.
UNIONDALE, NY — A Hempstead man was arrested Monday after Nassau County police say he snatched a new iPad right out of a woman's hands.
According to police, a 63-year-old woman was leaving the Apple Store in the Roosevelt Field Mall at 2:05 p.m. Monday when a man came up behind her. The man — Lloyd McKinley, 22, of Hempstead — grabbed her shopping bag, which contained an Apple iPad, and yanked it away from her, and then ran off, police said.
Officers responded and began to search the area. Police say they found McKinley a block away near the intersection of Oak Street and Westbury Boulevard. As the officers approached, police say McKinley threw the stolen goods away and fled on foot. The officers recovered the stolen property and gave chase on foot, police said.
