Special Election To Fill Bynoe's Seat In Nassau Legislature

WESTBURY, NY — Voters will head to the polls this month for a special election. There's an open seat in the Nassau County Legislature with Siela Bynoe winning the state senate race.

The Republicans selected Karin Campbell, former Westbury School Board President, who lost to Bynoe in 2023, for the Legislative District 2 Special Election on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Campbell also worked as an educator for Nassau BOCES, where she supported career and technical programs that helped students gain essential workforce skills and access good-paying jobs.

"Karin Campbell has worked tirelessly throughout her life to serve the people of Nassau County, and she will be a fighter for her neighbors as a member of the Nassau County Legislature," said Nassau County Republican Chairman Joseph G. Cairo, Jr.

A longtime advocate for local families, seniors, and veterans, Campbell’s priorities include investing in the Nassau County Police Department to fight crime, protecting the suburban quality of life and working with the Republican majority on the County Legislature to further reduce the tax burden on residents.

The Democrats picked Olena Nicks as their candidate. She's a longtime leader in the community. Nicks serves as 2nd Lieutenant in the Uniondale Fire Department, where she previously was captain. She is also a Uniondale Library trustee and a policy committee member for the Uniondale School District.

"Olena Nicks has a well-earned reputation for getting things done," said Jay Jacobs, Chair of the Nassau County Democratic Committee. "From her service on the frontlines to her fight for affordable housing and stronger communities, Olena has proven she is ready to lead."

Nicks will fight for affordable housing, safer streets, stronger schools and better services for all.

Early voting runs from Feb. 15-23.
