Stop-Arm Cameras Coming To Garden City School Buses

The cameras will catch people who illegally drive around stopped school buses, which endangers children getting on and off the bus.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City School District announced that it will be joining the Town of Hempstead's school bus safety program and installing stop-arm camera's on the district's buses.

The Town of Hempstead is working with contractor Bus Patrol Inc. to install the cameras on the stop-arms of all the district's buses. The cameras are designed to detect vehicles that illegally pass buses when the stop arms and red lights are engaged.

Town officials review the footage from the cameras to determine whether to issue violations to drivers through the mail.
