Strong, Cold Winds To Batter Long Island

Today's storm will bring heavy winds, and make temperatures feel well below freezing going forward.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A storm coming to the region today is bringing strong winds with it, which could lead to some damage

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for all of Long Island from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Winds are expected to be 20 to 30 MPH, with gusts up to 50 MPH.

It is going to rain for most of the day as well, but the rain shouldn't be too bad. The NWS forecasts between a quarter and half inch of rain could fall over the area.

The rain will taper off this evening, but temperatures will plummet as it does. The low tonight is expected to be below freezing, which could create hazardous spots on the roads.

And it will still be windy come Thursday morning, with wind chill values making it feel below freezing.
