Thousands On Long Island Still Without Power After Storm

PSEG says it is working to restore power to more than 5,000 customers who were affected by the storm.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Thousands are still without power after a strong storm blew through the area last night. But PSEG Long Island says it is working to restore power.

According to PSEG, nearly 27,600 people lost power overnight. As of 10:45 a.m., power had been restored to more than 22,000 of them, but more than 5,000 people are still without power.

PSEG's map shows there are currently 390 outages across the Island, affecting more than 5,000 people. The utility says it has crews working around-the-clock to get power back.

"PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship, especially during the holidays, and appreciates its customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service," they wrote in an update.

PSEG's outage map shows the location of all the outages and the areas they effect, as well as when power is estimated to be restored.

The utility also reminded residents to stay away from downed power lines. If there are downed lines in your area that haven't been reported yet, you can call 800-490-0075, or call 911.
