Village Recognizes Paralympic Gold Medalist Anastasia Pagonis

During a brief ceremony Thursday evening, October 7, 2021 Mayor Cosmo Veneziale, on behalf of the Village of Garden City, presented a proclamation recognizing Garden City’s own Anastasia Pagonis, a 17-year-old Team USA swimmer who made her Paralympic debut in Tokyo this summer.

Ms. Pagonis broke her own record and won the first gold medal of the Games for the United States in the Women’s 400-meter Freestyle S11 with a time of 4:54:49. She went on to win bronze in the Women’s 200-meter Individual Medley SM11, finishing in 2:45:61.

“The Village of Garden City is honored to recognize Anastasia Pagonis for her dedication and hard work in winning two Medals at the Paralympics and representing the United States as well as the Village of Garden City,” the proclamation read. “She is a source of inspiration to everyone.”
