Woman Crashed Stolen Car While Driving Drunk: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Feb. 15.
Feb. 9
- A person’s identity was reported stolen and used for employment with an online company.
- Officers responded to Kingsbury Road for a water main break and safeguarded icy road conditions.
- A driver on Nassau Boulevard was charged with driving with a suspended license and disregarding a traffic sign.
- A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and tinted windows.
- A pair of Apple Earbuds were reported stolen from the Adelphi University gym.
- Officers responded to Harvard Street where a driver struck two parked unoccupied vehicles. The 41-year-old was arrested for DWI.
- A driver on Merillon Avenue was charged with a suspended license and a suspended registration.

- A driver on Cathedral Ave was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- Garden City detectives arrested a 19-year-old man for assuming the identity of another and cashing two fraudulent checks totaling $19,000 at local banks. He was charged with two counts of grand larceny, two counts of possession of a forged instrument, and two counts of identity theft.
Feb. 11
- Garden City detectives arrested a 29-year-old man for leaving the scene of a Washington Avenue auto accident.
- Witnesses observed two people attempting to break into parcel drop-off boxes behind a Franklin Avenue business.
- A driver on Cambridge Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed.
- A driver on New Hyde Park Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding in a school zone.

- Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Washington Avenue and Transverse Road, officers arrested one of the drivers, a 28-year-old woman, for driving a vehicle reported stolen in Mineola on Feb. 11. She was also charged with DWI, multiple license suspensions, and an outstanding Nassau County burglary warrant.
- A vehicle reportedly left the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied vehicle in Parking Field 7N.
- Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.
- Numerous unauthorized charges were reportedly made against a resident’s credit card account.
Feb. 13
- Officers assisted firefighters who extinguished an electrical wire fire inside a Garden City Plaza building.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and defective brake lights.
Feb. 14
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with excessive speed, unsafe lane use, and operating a handheld device.
- A resident reported her wallet was lost or stolen at an unknown location and later determined there were fraudulent charges against two of her credit card accounts.
- Garden City police and firefighters and MTA police officers rescued a person who was stuck in the Merillon Railroad Station elevator.
Feb. 15
- Upon investigation of an erratic driver on Franklin Avenue, officers arrested a 46-year-old woman for DWI and two improper lane use violations.
- A victim reportedly received a phone call from a person claiming to be a bank representative who stated his accounts were compromised and his personal information was needed to resolve the issue. The victim provided his information to the caller which was apparently used later to make several fraudulent withdrawals from his bank account.
- A driver on South Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and uninspected vehicle.
- A driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended license and altered license plates.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire call and determined the cause to be burnt food.
