Thief Pretending To Be Repairman Robs Gramercy Senior: NYPD

A man robbed a Gramercy woman in her apartment after he claimed he was going to fix a leak in her home, police said.

GRAMERCY, NY — A thief pretending to be a repairman conned his way into a senior's Gramercy apartment where he made off with her purse and cash, police said.

The man, dressed in a gray t-shirt, blue pants and a canvas sun hat, knocked on the 81-year-old woman's apartment door near 13th Street and Second Avenue at 3:20 p.m. on July 13, official said.

After claiming he needed access to the woman's home to fix a leak, the burglar made his way inside, grabbed the woman's purse with $100 in cash and bolted out of the building in an unknown direction, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
