Track Fire at Union Square Causes Delays to 4, 5, 6 Trains

'Rubbish' on the tracks caused the fire that delayed commuters, the FDNY said.

UNION SQUARE, NY — Some trash that caught fire on the subway tracks at the Union Square station caused delays to the 4, 5, and 6 trains during rush hour Thursday evening.

Twelve fire trucks were at the scene outside the subway station around 6 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said.

The FDNY arrived on the scene at 5:17 p.m., according to the FDNY spokesperson. They turned the power off on multiple tracks to put out the fire. The fire still wasn't under control by 6:15 p.m., but there were no injuries reported.
