Levels, the teen center in the Great Neck Library, will present Euripides’ classic play The Bacchae, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, January 8, 9 and 10, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.

The show is open to the public and admission is free.

Euripides’ notorious tragicomedy is newly adapted by Levels teen Peter Pitt Stoller, from a translation by Ian Johnston. Do you like the Percy Jackson series? Greek mythology in general? Well, if you like theatre, Dionysian revelry, or just a good tragic downfall, you'll enjoy The Bacchae! In it, Dionysus – patron god of wine, parties, and tearing people apart in frenzied madness – comes to his birth city of Thebes to avenge his mother’s disgrace, get revenge on his cousin the King for outlawing his worship, and simply cause chaos and debauchery wherever he goes. This production features several original songs performed by the traditional Greek Chorus.

The show’s all-teen creative staff is led by director-adapter-composer Peter Pitt Stoller. Producer is Judah Lyman. Set design is by Yolanda Xu, costume design by Jamie Yao, lighting design by Peter Pitt Stoller with associate/board operator Salem Goody, prop design by Ava Whitehorn, and makeup & hair design by Zoe Di Rico.

The cast of local middle and high school students includes Zoe Di Rico, Neil Marantz, Ethan Margolis, Nathan Miao, Emma Perreault, Serafina Scotti-Ferguson, Peter Pitt Stoller, and Yolanda Xu.

Levels, the Great Neck Library’s cultural center for teenagers established in 1974, presents several fully-staged theatrical productions a year, giving teens the opportunity to learn leadership and responsibility through the arts. Levels productions are directed, produced and performed by students seventh grade through college-age under the guidance of Levels’ staff of accomplished adult artists.
