Great Neck Named One Of Best School Districts In Country

GREAT NECK, NY — The Great Neck School District was named one of the best in the country in the education platform Niche’s 2023 Best Schools and Districts rankings released Tuesday.

The Great Neck district was No. 3 in Niche’s ranking of 11,820 school districts nationwide. Overall, six Long Island districts were in the top 25 in the country.

Niche gave Great Neck an A+ grade. The breakdown by specific categories were:

Academics: A+
Teachers: A+
Clubs and activities: A+
Sports: B
Resources and facilities: A
Diversity: B+
College prep: A+
Administration: A+
Food: B+

The school district, which has 6,578 students, received high marks from students, parents and teachers.

Great Neck was also named the No. 1 school district in New York, and placed No. 4 on the list of best teachers in the state.

Niche also ranked 92,743 public schools and 30,112 private schools in the 2023 report. The platform said its rankings were created to provide families with valuable information — both quantitative and qualitative — on schools in their area or in a neighborhood they’re not familiar with yet.

Many Long Island high schools were named among the best in the state.

The rankings differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.
