Martins Declares Victory Over Kaplan In 7th State Senate District

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Voters went to the polls on Tuesday to choose the next state senator in New York's 7th District. Former State Senator Jack Martins (R) challenged incumbent Anna Kaplan (D) in the district, which covers Port Washington, Great Neck, Mineola, East Hills and Manhasset.

Martins declared victory over Kaplan early Wednesday morning, the LI Herald reported.

"We all knew that this is the year where we're going to draw the line in the sand," he said.

"And we're going to stand up to make sure we protected our communities and kept our families safe and send the message to Albany. That enough is enough. And guess what? Right here in Nassau County, once again, we stood up and we're going back to Albany."

Anna Kaplan — 55,963 votes

Jak Martins — 64,009 votes

Jack Martins, former mayor of Mineola, served in the State Senate from 2010 to 2016. Anna Kaplan of Great Neck has represented the district since 2019.

The 7th Senate District has a population of 331,029 and according to Ballotpedia, is 53 percent white, 7.5 percent Black, 22 percent Asian and 16 percent Hispanic.

Kaplan won the district by 57.4 percent in 2020.
