3 Hospitalized After Dix Hills House Fire

The family dog safely escaped the blaze.

A woman and her two daughters were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in their Dix Hills home on Saturday afternoon, according to fire officials.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a Carlls Straight Path home to find a fully-involved fire on the second floor bedroom at 1:06 p.m. Firefighters aggressively attacked the blaze from the inside and brought it under control in 15 minutes, containing the fire to the bedroom. The house sustained smoke and water damage, officials say.

The homeowner and her two daughters escaped the fire. They were taken to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad to be treated for smoke inhalation. The family dog safely escaped the blaze.

Sixty firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the scene with eight trucks, three ambulances and paramedic responders. The Dix Hills Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Commack, Deer Park and Bethpage fire departments as well as the Commack Ambulance. The Melville Fire Department provided standby coverage. Suffolk County Fire Rescue Coordinators were also dispatched to the scene for assistance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Huntington Town Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
