Car Overturns, Catches Fire In Melville 2-Vehicle Crash

Two occupants in the car were hospitalized for head injuries, fire officials say.

A car overturned and caught fire following a two-vehicle crash on Sunday morning in Melville.

According to fire officials, the car collided with an SUV on Bagatelle Road, near Tamara Court, around 5:15 a.m. Occupants of the car were able to self-extricate from the overturned vehicle. Two occupants were transported to Huntington Hospital by the Melville Rescue Squad with head injuries.

The driver of the SUV declined medical assistance.

Two ambulances, two engines and a paramedic unit responded to the scene. Units were under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Chris Nolan, David Kaplan and Bill Schmitt.
