Dix Hills Firefighters Help Save Woman From East End Fire
The firefighters were out enjoying lunch at an East End vineyard when they heard a woman scream.
Dix Hills firefighters were touring the North Fork when they helped save a woman from a house fire on Saturday afternoon.
According to fire officials, Dix Hills Fire Department Captain Scott DiPino and firefighters Mike Gatto and Matt Mattone stopped for lunch at Jason's Vineyard in Jamesport with other firefighters when they spotted smoke and heard a woman screaming at 2:45 p.m.
Fire officials say the firefighters ran to the nearby house, grabbed a woman from inside and walked her outside away from the raging blaze. She suffered smoke inhalation from trying to rescue her pets, officials say. The woman, her husband and a Mattituck firefighter who suffered minor injuries were taken to a local hospital.

Yvonne McKay created a GoFundMe page to support her mother and father who lost everything. "On Saturday, September 9, I received a call from my dad who was in hysterics because our house had caught on fire. By God's grace, my mom, my dad, my sister, and most of our pets made it out alive. Sadly, we did lose one of our cats, Shiva," she wrote.
According to fire officials, Dix Hills firefighters David Baack and Justin Schweidel also helped at the scene of the blaze by assisting Jamesport firefighters in stretching hose lines up to the house as the fire trucks arrived on the scene.
