Half Hollow Hills Student Named Intel Semifinalist

High school senior is among only 300 nationwide to receive honor.

A Half Hollow Hills East student was among 43 Long Island high school seniors named semifinalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search.

Ben Edwards, 17, got the news on Wednesday about being in an elite pool of 300 students nationwide to be selected as semifinalists.

From this pool, 40 finalists are then invited to Washington, D.C,. in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for three top awards of $150,000 each.

Edwards’ project is entitled ”Simulations of Quantum Key Distribution to Investigate the Likelihood of Detecting an Eavesdropper.”
