Woman Seriously Injured, 7 Others Hurt In 3-Car Melville Crash
Four children, ages 2, 4, 8 and 9, were among those hospitalized from the Friday afternoon crash.
UPDATED at 7:25 p.m.: A three-car crash in Melville left a woman seriously injured and hospitalized seven others, including four young children, on Friday afternoon, police say.
According to authorities, a 30-year-old Travis Jones, of Freeport, was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon with his four children and his wife in the car when he struck a 2015 Nissan Altima while traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway South Service Road at 12:20 p.m.
The woman driving the Altima, 30-year-old Ashley Trickett, of Levittown, was traveling southbound on Walt Whitman Road when she made a left hand turn onto the South Service Road. Police say that was when the Altima was struck by the GMC Yukon. The Altima then struck a 2016 Toyota Corolla.

Trickett was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where she is being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the Corolla, 25-year-old Michelle Lee from Allendale, New Jersey, was taken to Plainview Hospital with minor injuries. She was treated and released, police said.

Jones, his 27-year-old wife, Devona Sheppard, and his four children, a 9-year-old girl, 8-year-old girl, 4-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl, were taken to Nassau University Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
The investigation is continuing and all three cars were impounded for safety checks.
Melville, Plainview and East Farmingdale fire department ambulances helped transport those injured to the hospitals for treatment.
The Melville Fire Department responded to the scene with help from the Dix Hills Fire Department. The Huntington Manor Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad provided standby coverage.
The Melville Fire Department dispatched four ambulances, a heavy rescue truck, an engine, paramedic unit and fire police to the scene. Units were under the direction of Chief Jason Bernfeld and Assistant Chief David Kaplan, according to fire spokesperson Steve Silverman.
