No Injuries in Dix Hills House Blaze

It was the second house fire in five days, officials said.

Firefighters battled their second Dix Hills house fire in five days on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Volunteers from the Dix Hills Fire Department attacked the blaze at about 5:10 p.m. on Jason Court, according to officials.

There were no reported injuries, and the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, officials said.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting out of two second floor windows and the attic of the center hall colonial home, officials said. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire, which was brought under control within 45 minutes.

The Melville Fire Department and Deer Park Fire Department assisted with additional trucks and manpower at the scene. Melville Fire Department also supplied a standby truck at Dix Hills headquarters along with two ambulances from the Greenlawn Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad, officials said.

There were 60 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with seven trucks, two ambulances and a rehab unit, under the command of Chief Robert Fling. Operations sectors were handled by Assistant Chiefs Tom Napolitano, Alan Berkowitz and Joe Williamson, according to officials.

The fire caused extensive damage to the second floor with smoke and water damage to the remainder of the home.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature, but is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal.
