Special Needs Adults Involved In Dix Hills Crash That Hurt 10

The two-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday morning.

Ten people were hospitalized after being involved in a crash with a minibus carrying special needs adults and a commercial van on Tuesday morning in Dix Hills.

Dix Hills firefighters responded to the crash at the intersection of Commack Road and the LIE North Service Road at about 8:25 a.m.

Eight passengers on the bus were taken to Huntington and Plainview hospitals for precautionary reasons and minor complaints, fire officials say.

Two occupants in the van were taken to Huntington Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Dis Hills Fire Department had additional assistance from EMS personnel from the Melville, Greenlawn and North Babylon fire departments, Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corps.

Suffolk County EMS also responded with their Major Emergency Response Vehicle unit, which was used to transport some of the bus passengers, according to PIO Steve Silverman. The East Northport and Huntington Manor fire departments provided standby coverage
