Vehicle Fire Intensifies After Gas Tank Ruptures On Long Island Expressway

Firefighters used 750 gallons of water and foam to extinguish an intense car fire on the Long Island Expressway last week, fire officials say.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the car fire, located in the westbound lanes, just west of Commack Road in Dix Hills around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4.

The flames intensified when the gas tank ruptured, but firefighters were still able to extinguish the blaze, fire officials say.

No injuries were reported.

Three engines and two ambulances were dispatched. Units were under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Joe Williamson and Brett Tepe.
