Bronx Man Shot Dead In Harlem, Police Say

The man arrived at St. Luke's hospital suffering a gunshot wound.

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is investigating a fatal shooting on the west side of Harlem after a man brought to St. Luke's hospital died, police said.

Rashaun Pope, 21, was brought to St. Luke's hospital by private means early Sunday morning suffering a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. The Bronx resident was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Investigators determined that Pope was shot in the vicinity of West 125th Street and 12th Avenue, police said. The investigation is ongoing and police have not named any suspects.

The fatal shooting is the first murder of 2018 to take place in the NYPD's 26th Precinct, according to crime statistics released on July 22. The precinct — which spans the Morningside Heights neighborhood and West Harlem up to West 141st Street — saw only three shootings before Sunday's homicide, according to the NYPD's crime stats.
