THOMPSON-SCRETCHING's play "A LONG WAY FROM HOME" will encore at THE AMERICAN THEATRE OF ACTORS, telephone 212/581-3044 (an indie-theatre since 1976) located at 314 West 54th Street (between 8th/9th Avenues and ADA accessible), New York, NY 10019. "A Long Way From Home" a compelling 2-hour dramatic play, is set in the 1960’s.and follows Shanna Taylor’s family, who has migrated from Macon, Georgia to Brooklyn, New York. They rent an old walk-up in an area called Brownsville.&nbsp; Escaping from Jim Crow and the Klan in the south, the family realizes segregation and civil unrest is in the North too. Luella, the daughter, is so disenchanted, she gets involved with the “Black Power Movement”. Jacob, her husband is away from home carousing for women in the streets. His son Willie is duty bound to follow in his father’s footsteps. Shanna is focused on keeping the family together while saving for her dream home and maintaining her Southern values. Jacob’s older brother, Chester is a New York big shot. He’s employed as a broker at Falco &amp; Son, who shows Shanna a worthless house that’s been redlined by the bank. Chester steals her money and blames it on her husband. Joe Falco is Chester’s boss, who has him blockbusting the neighborhood.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Our Saviours Atonement Lutheran Church

Human connections can often be the spark that breathes life into great music. The People That Inspire Us begins with Revelry by trailblazing American composer and Imani Winds founder and WHCO Spotlight Composer, Valerie Coleman. The work, described by the composer as “a sensory guide to the reckless abandon that emerges when people congregate” pulses with rhythmic drive and jubilant energy. We continue with Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio in G minor, inspiring not only because it was composed by a woman in a male-dominated musical world, but because of its extraordinary emotional depth, formal elegance, and expressive power. Our program concludes with a rarely heard gem from Louise Farrenc, a French Romantic composer and groundbreaking music educator. Her Nonet combines the textures of strings and winds in a richly melodic, symphonic-scale chamber work.
