East Harlem Fire Kills 1, Injures 1, FDNY Says

The fire broke out Friday morning in a building within the Wilson Houses public housing development.

EAST HARLEM, NY — One person was killed and another was injured Friday morning after a fire broke out in an East Harlem public housing building, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out on the third floor of a building in the Wilson Houses development on East 105th Street and First Avenue around 10:30 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Two people were rushed from the scene to area hospitals, the spokesman said.

A 62-year-old man was pronounced dead and a 93-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, police said. The city medical examiner will determine the man's exact cause of death. Neither person was identified by authorities.

The city fire marshal will investigate the fire's cause, which is currently unknown, fire officials said.

The Wilson Houses is a three-building development operated by the New York City Housing Authority. The development is located between East 105th and 106th Streets east of First Avenue and is directly north of the much larger East River Houses complex.
