Elderly Man Choked, Robbed In East Harlem, Police Say

A 74-year-old man was choked from behing and shoved to the ground in East Harlem, according to police, who are searching for a suspect.

EAST HARLEM, NY — Police are searching for a suspect accused of violently robbing an elderly man in East Harlem last week.

The robbery happened around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday near the corner of East 118th Street and Third Avenue.

The victim, a 74-year-old man, was approached by a person who choked him from behind, threw him to the ground and grabbed his wallet, containing $300 in cash, police said. The victim was taken to Metropolitan Hospital in stable condition.

Police on Monday released surveillance footage showing the suspect near the site of the robbery, showing him holding a cane in his hand and then putting it down on the sidewalk.
