4 Injured In East Harlem Building Fire

EAST HARLEM, NY — A fire broke out in an East Harlem apartment building on Monday, causing street closures and sending plumes of smoke into the neighborhood.

The blaze broke out around 2 p.m. on the top floor of 181 East 107th St., a five-story building near Third Avenue. Four people were hospitalized with minor injuries, authorities said.

More than 100 firefighters and EMS workers were responding to the fire, which was brought under control by 3:37 p.m.

Third Avenue was shut down above East 106th Street as crews worked to contain the fire, a local precinct tweeted, advising residents to expect heavy delays and avoid the area.

There was no word as to what may have caused the fire.
