Fire Breaks Out In Harlem Public Housing Building, FDNY Says

One person suffered minor injuries during the fire.

HARLEM, NY — One person suffered minor injuries when a fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in a Harlem public housing building, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters arrived on the scene of 55 La Salle St., located between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, around 2:23 p.m. to battle a blaze in an apartment on the building's third floor, an FDNY spokesman said. The fire was controlled about one hour later, the spokesman said.

One person suffered minor injuries and likely won't be transported to a hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

The cause of the fire will be investigated, fire officials said.

55 La Salle St. is a building in the General Ulysses S. Grant Houses public housing development operated by the New York City Housing Authority.
