Girl Scout Cookie Pop Up Debuts In East Harlem

Girl Scout troops from the five boroughs will work at the pop up during after school hours and weekends.

EAST HARLEM, NY — The season for Girl Scout Cookies is in full swing, and the Girl Scouts of Greater New York have launched a pop up store in East Harlem to maximize their cookies sales and raise money for troops from all five of New York City's boroughs.

The pop up store opened Friday in a space on Lexington Avenue and East 101st Street and will remain in the location until May 4. All varieties of Girl Scout cookies are stocked at the store, which will be open during after school hours and weekends, Girl Scouts of Greater New York CEO Meridith Maskara told Patch.

Maskara said the East Harlem space was chosen for its proximity to a number of girl scout troops and its location in a highly-trafficked area.

"We do have a lot of girl scouts up in this area, so it's convenient for a lot of troops to be able to participate and it's a really lively community," Maskara said. "So we thought it would be a really good fit."

Customers at the pop up will experience the "instant gratification" of not having to wait for their cookies in the mail as opposed to traditional Girl Scout Cookie sales, Maskara said. The Girl Scouts of Greater New York have taken extra precautions to stock the store, so they don't run out of any flavor of cookie.

All the Girl Scout troops that participate in the pop up store are local units. The Girl Scouts of Greater New York serves 31,000 girls in the five boroughs.

In addition to the pop up, the Girl Scouts of Greater New York also launched a mobile Girl Scout Cookie Truck. The truck is staffed by local Girl Scout troops and will make appearances in different boroughs.
