Harlem Man Arrested For June Murder At Grant Houses: Police
The suspect in the June murder of Devin Campbell is a Harlem man who had been acquitted in a previous murder thanks to Hurricane Sandy.

HARLEM, NY — Police have arrested a man in the June ambush killing of a West Harlem resident — and the suspect appears to be a man who was acquitted in a previous murder thanks in part to a natural disaster.
Freddie McGrier, 30, is accused of pulling the trigger in the June 28 killing of Devin Campbell. Campbell, 32, was shot around 7:24 p.m. on West 125th Street — across from the Grant Houses, where he lived, according to police.
Campbell was stepping out of his car when an unknown shooter in a gray vehicle ambushed him with gunfire and then drove away, the Daily News reported.

The suspect, McGrier, lived nearby on West 126th Street.
It isn't his first time in the news: in 2012, McGrier was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old gas station worker in the Bronx.

After a two-week trial in 2015, however, McGrier was acquitted — in part because the clothes worn by the victim, Lamin Sillah, had been destroyed in Hurricane Sandy, depriving prosecutors of a key piece of evidence.
McGrier now faces charges of murder and weapons possession.
