Harlem Mugger Strikes Twice At 135th St Subway Station, NYPD Says

The two robberies happened just five days apart.

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted in connection with two robberies at a Harlem subway station, police said.

The man is accused of robbing two people just five days apart at the Wests 135th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard station this month, police said. The first robbery occurred on the night of Feb. 8 and the second occurred on Feb. 13.

During the first robbery, the suspect approached a 74-year-old man inside the subway station and snatched his Metrocard and wallet, police said. After taking the man's money, he forcefully removed the man's glasses, causing a laceration to his face, police said. The victim refused medical attention at the scene.

Five days later, the mugger approached a 37-year-old woman as she was entering the train station and snatched her Beats headphones, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s or late teens who stands about 6-feet-tall. Police release security camera photos of the man taken near the scene of the crimes.
