Italian Coffee Roaster Opens East Harlem Cafe
Dell'Aria has opened the doors at a large new East Harlem cafe and roastery, where it will also serve house-made gelato, focaccia and more.
EAST HARLEM, NY — A new Italian-style cafe and coffee roaster has opened its doors in East Harlem, billing itself as "the first full service Italian roastery and cafe in the United States."
Dell'Aria opened the doors Friday at its new storefront at 232 East 111th St., between Second and Third avenues. The garage-style space had sat largely unused for years before its recent conversion.
Inside the 4,000-square-foot space, Dell'Aria will brew slow-roasted coffee in the form of espresso, cold brew, pour-overs or traditional Neopolitan flip pots. Breakfast and lunch items will include house-made focaccia, biscotti, panini, and charcuterie, while gelato will be made in a glass-enclosed room and sold at the counter with toppings available.

At the center of the room sits a large roaster, which occupies "a place of lauded praise" under a central skylight, the shop said in a news release. A training lab, meanwhile, will offer classes for coffee professionals as well as tasting courses for amateurs.
"Coffee is about culture, lifestyle, and choices we make, it’s about how we engage with the world," said Michele Maturo, Dell'Aria's founder, in a statement. "At Dell’Aria we want to do it in a responsible, equal, and respectful way creating our community."
