Man Arrested For Killing Harlem Pizza Deliveryman, Police Say

The 29-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting a Papa John's deliveryman in front of his workplace.

HARLEM, NY — A man is facing charges for the murder of a pizza deliveryman in Harlem, police said.

Luis Jaime, 29, was arrested Saturday and charged with murder, assault, menacing and weapons possession in connection with the Aug. 29 murder of Jose Alvarado, police said. Alvarado was shot in the head outside of the Papa John's restaurant where he worked on Amsterdam Avenue near West 145th Street, police said.

Officers arrived on scene and found Alvarado unconscious, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound police said. The Bronx resident was rushed Alvarado to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Alvarado was returning to the store after completing a delivery when Jaime allegedly walked up to him and shot him in the head, police said. Investigators are still looking into a motive for the shooting.

Jaime was held without bail following a Sept. 2 court appearance, according to court records. He's due in court again on Sept. 7, according to the records.
