Man Shot In Botched Harlem Robbery, Police Say

The shooting occurred when a man refused to hand his bicycle over to a robber, police said.

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a gunman wanted for a shooting in Harlem, police said.

A 39-year-old man was riding his bike near West 131 Street and Lennox Avenue on Tuesday night when he was approached by an unknown man at the street corner, police said. The man attempted to physically take the bike, which led to a struggle, police said.

During the fight over the bicycle, the robber pulled a gun and opened fire, police said. The bicyclist was hit in the leg and later rushed to a local hospital in stable condition, police said.

The robber fled the scene empty handed after the shooting, police said. Police did not have much identifying information about the suspect other than he was a man who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the letters "USA" on the front and red sneakers.

Police released a photo of the suspect (seen above) taken by security cameras near the crime scene.
