Man Shot Dead On Harlem Street Corner, Police Say

Officers found the man suffering a gunshot wound to the head on the corner of West 119th Street and Lenox Avenue.

HARLEM, NY — A man was shot to death early Wednesday morning in Central Harlem, police said.

Officers responding to a shots fired call arrived at the corner of West 119th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard around 1:45 a.m. to find a 40-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to the head, police said. EMS rushed the man to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police identified the victim as Thomas White, a resident of Lenox Avenue who lived just four blocks away from the scene of the shooting.

The NYPD has not made an arrest in connection with the shooting and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Wednesday's shooting is the first homicide reported in the 28th NYPD Precinct this year, according to the precinct's crime statistics as of April 14. The 28th precinct spans much of Central Harlem from Central Park North to West 127th Street between Fifth Avenue and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. The incident was just the second shooting recorded in the precinct this year, according to precinct crime statistics.
